About
FIDES is the brain child of Sr. Nancy Pereira F.M.A. Sr. Nancy's passion for the poor and the suffering led her to the Ulsoor slum in 1993. Gifted with many talents of mind and heart Sr. Nancy was the pioneer of social work in the province of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Bangalore. Her enthusiasm and determination coupled with her God given talents of mind and heart she began touring the villages around her residence and the Ulsoor slum. Observing the poverty and misery in which the people were living her computer brain began to plan. She noted all the evils existing in the slum, the causes of death of children and their mothers, the sadness and misery that reigned in the families. She identified one by one the challenges – alcoholism, illiteracy, male domination, poor sanitation, ignorance, malnourishment of pregnant mothers and babies, poverty, low wages, laziness, lack of awareness of their rights, poor housing facilities, debts, lack of cleanliness, unemployment, disunity and quarrels in the families, lack of saving habits etc..
Sr. Nancy prayed for help, for strength to face these challenges. She wanted to redeem these people. Everyday practically she would come up with new ideas and new ventures to improve the situation of these people. The result of her dream, her planning and her activity was the birth of FIDES with its focus on the holistic development of families by educating women and children.
