THE 15TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF SR.NANCY PEREIRA
On 13th July 2025, the FIDES family came together to commemorate the 15th Death Anniversary of Sr. Nancy Pereira FMA, the visionary founder of FIDES. The prayer ceremony, held at 11:00 AM, brought together around 130 participants including staff, community members, and well-wishers, united in remembrance and gratitude for Sr. Nancy’s life and mission.
The event began with a moment of silent prayer led by Mr. Samuel, inviting all present to reflect on the values and legacy Sr. Nancy left behind. He then shared an inspiring account of her life:
Born on 14th August 1923 in Puthukkurichy, Kerala, Sr. Nancy joined the convent in 1942 and went on to become the first Indian Daughter of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco - FMA). Known for her hard work, deep spirituality, and boundless compassion, she remained active and selfless even in her later years.
It was in her seventies that she founded FIDES, working tirelessly among the marginalized in Ulsoor slums. Sr. Nancy dedicated her life to empowering women, rescuing men from addiction, and supporting the education of thousands of children. Her work transcended barriers of caste, creed, and religion, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire.
The program continued with personal testimonies and sharing of experiences from community members whose lives were deeply touched by Sr. Nancy:
* Shantha Bai shared the miraculous recovery of her husband from COVID through continuous prayer to Sr. Nancy.
* Arokyamary expressed how her health improved after a difficult surgery, crediting it to her unwavering devotion.
* Mr. Samuel spoke of his daughter’s healing without the need for an operation, attributing it to Sr. Nancy’s intercession.
Arputha Mary shared a touching memory of how Sr. Nancy supported her children’s education, enabling her to build a better future and own a home today.
These heartfelt stories were a testament to the deep spiritual bond the community still holds with Sr. Nancy, and to the transformative power of her mission.
Following the sharing session, all members visited Sr. Nancy’s burial site, where they lit candles and offered prayers in solemn tribute. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by snack distribution generously sponsored by Ms. Arokyamary and the Fernandez family, in loving memory of Sr. Nancy’s compassionate spirit.
This gathering was not just an event of remembrance, but a celebration of a legacy that lives on in the hearts of many. Sr. Nancy’s life continues to inspire the work of FIDES and serves as a guiding light for future generations.
