On 25th July 2025, FIDES hosted a highly engaging Power BI training session for its staff, led by Professor Manoj, a renowned expert in data analytics from Christ University. This session marked a significant step towards enhancing digital capacity and data-driven decision-making within the organization.

Unlike a typical lecture-style session, this training was designed as an interactive learning experience, where participants were actively involved at every stage. From the outset, Professor Manoj emphasized not just understanding the theory behind Power BI, but applying it practically. After each concept was introduced—such as data transformation using Power Query, modeling with Power Pivot, or visualizing data with Power View—staff were immediately given hands-on assignments to reinforce their learning.

The training covered essential aspects of Power BI, including importing data from Excel, cleaning and filtering datasets, creating calculated columns, and designing visually engaging dashboards. What made the session truly effective was the continuous “learn-by-doing” approach. Staff didn’t just observe the process—they experienced it in real-time, applying techniques and solving problems independently, with guidance and feedback from the trainer.

Particular attention was given to how Power BI complements and extends Microsoft Excel. Staff explored how raw datasets like employee records or survey feedback—often managed in Excel—could be enhanced using Power BI’s robust analytical features. By integrating familiar tools with new capabilities, staff discovered how to streamline their reporting, improve data clarity, and gain actionable insights.

Throughout the session, Professor Manoj maintained a lively atmosphere, encouraging curiosity and peer discussion. He posed reflective questions and challenged the staff to think critically about how Power BI could be used in their daily work—from program monitoring to impact reporting.

The session concluded with a heartfelt thank-you note from Sister Sumi, who presented a token of appreciation to Professor Manoj. His session was deeply appreciated not only for the technical content but for the empowering learning environment he created. Staff walked away not just with a new skill, but with confidence in applying data analytics tools in meaningful ways.
